Use of low GRV has not been shown to decrease the
incidence of aspiration. The relation between HGRV and
aspiration is, nevertheless, controversial. Mentec et al. [7]
showed that the incidence of pneumonia after the onset of
EN was clearly superior in patients with upper digestive
intolerance to enteral feeding. On the other hand,
McClave et al. [24] could not find this correlation. Other
authors also found no relationship between GRV and
aspiration or pneumonia [25–27].
