our actual time to assess the fetus is limited to several hours over the entire pregnancy; and perhaps several continuous hours during labor and birth. The fetus’ daily health and well-being is much better assessed through the mother’s perception of fetal movement. Therefore, it is essential to not only ask if the baby is moving well, but to hear her descriptions of how andwhen the fetus moves. The movement within, if changed dramatically, can provide an early signal to problems. These problems can be averted if evaluated soon enough.
