Conclusion
Both obesity and seatbelt usage have substantial economic impacts, with obesity costs equaling $147 billion to the US economy in 2007. However , as demonstrated by the regression model developed in this study, these two factors are related. In particular, the estimates of the regression coefficients in Table 1 show that the obesity rate has a larger impact on seatbelt usage in states without seatbelt laws. This model also supports previous conclusions that seatbelt laws tend to increase seatbelt usage and increasing obesity tends to seatbelt usage and obesity across all the states and several years, rather than a particular geographic area of one state or over, rather than a particular geographic are of one state or over a short span of time, provides a richer understanding for policymakers, who aim to reduce costs associated with obesity and motor vehicle crash injuries at both the state level and nationwide. By examining trends in seatbelt usage and obesity at the state level to gain critical insights into their evolution, this study underscores the importance of collecting data that quantify critical public health and public safety outcomes.
