A mixture of FcLR (1.00 g, 1.78 mmol) and the corresponding benzyl alcohol (3.56 mmol) in benzene (40 mL) was refluxed for 3 h.
The resulting dark orange solution was placed in an ice bath and stirred for 30 min. Anhydrous gaseous NH3 was then slowly bubbled through the solution at 0 C for 1 h. The color of the solution changed from orange to dark brown and a small amount of insoluble material precipitated out. The reaction mixture was filtrated and all volatiles were removed under reduced pressure.
The crude product was recrystallized from CH2Cl2/hexane to yield the
ligand as a pale yellow powder.
