Genetically modified foods
The lecture and the passage both discuss genetically modified foods (GM foods) , but express opposing viewpoints. While the passage claims that there are many benefits of GM foods, the lecture contradicts such claims in several ways.
First, the passages maintains that GM foods are environmentally friendly. They don't destroyed by pests, therefore farmers don't use pesticide. On other hand, professor agues in opposing view. He says that GM crops can mix weeds to create strong weeds that can resistant to herbicides. These weeds are difficult to control.
Second, the text holds that GM foods are healthful because there are a lot of vitamin and minerals. Moreover, manufacturer try to add vaccines for treat diseases. In contrast, the speaker believes that GM foods may be harmful to health because people are more allergic to them. For example, Brazil nut was not crossed with Soybean because consumers fear of allergies.
Third, the author of the passage mentions that there are many economic advantages of GM foods. For instance, large-sized crops will generate more income and due to large-sized, it is not difficult to ship farther. However, the lecturer calls this into question by noting that GM seeds is very expensive. Only rich man can afford it led to widen gap between rich people and poor people.
