In conclusion, the chemical conjugates of CS–CA nanogel with
different graft ratio and molecular weight of CS were successfully
synthesized using coupling reaction (self-aggregation), of watersoluble
CS and CA. The mean diameter of the gel nanoparticles
produced was below 100 nm with uniform size distribution and
spherical shape. The CS–CA nanogel system was then used as a
promising encapsulating material for C. cyminum essential oils
due to the slow-release characteristic of the nanogel. Finally, the
MIC analyses revealed the increased antifungal activity of CS–CA nanogel-encapsulated C. cyminum essential oils in comparison with
free oils. This finding could be of great significance in medicinal
plant remedies in order to achieve improved performance of
herbal essential oils at lower concentrations and during shorter
time frames.
