2.1. LAB strains and culture conditions
More than 2500 LAB strains are stocked at the NARO Institute of
Livestock and Grassland Science in Tsukuba, Japan. Of these, 208
LAB strains from a variety of sources, such as raw milk, milk products,
raw grasses and fermented vegetables, were screened for
antagonistic effects against P. larvae in vitro. These LAB were selected
and cultured in de Man-Rogosa-Sharpe (MRS) medium (Difco,
USA) at 35 C under anaerobic conditions.
