I heard him enter the house. He threw his keys on the shoe cupboard next to the door. They landed with a loud clink on the aluminum surface. He kicked his sneakers off and threw his jacket on the back of the couch. I have told him over a million times that he should hang it on the coatrack, but today it didn’t even bother me the slightest bit. These days the little things that had once annoyed me, were the least of my cares. I tried to remember when these indifferent feelings had developed. He plopped down on the couch next to me and disrupted my thoughts. “Hey, how was your day?” I asked automatically, like a pre-programmed robot. “Good” he said in a distracted tone. “I made dinner. It’s on the dining table if you are hungry” I said. “Yeah, thanks” he said. His eyes were locked on the television screen which played some silly soap opera. I got up from the couch and decided to do the laundry, because I didn’t want to spend another evening in complete silence. I went down to the basement and checked the hamper to see if there were any clothes inside it. We, well he had maids who could do all of these tasks, but I was used to doing everything myself. I didn’t like bothering them with such small chores. These chores had kept me occupied during these quiet and lonely days. I put a few of his t-shirts and shorts into the washing machine. After that I went back to the living room. I found him sitting at the dining table, poking his salad with a fork. His gaze met mine and he smiled. I didn’t know how to react for a split second, but then I returned the smile. “Can we talk?” he suddenly asked. “Sure” I mumbled. I wondered what he wanted to talk about, because I couldn’t remember the last time we had talked properly. “Sit down” he said and pointed to a chair next to him. I took a seat with a confused feeling. He put his fork down. There was an uneasy look plastered on his face. “What is it?” I asked. “Let’s end this, let’s break up” he said with an impassive face.
I blinked a few times as I couldn’t find the right words to reply. I didn’t want him to think that I was overwhelmed or something, because to be honest I wasn’t at all. I had anticipated this moment for quite some time now. “Fleur?” he said, softly. It felt strange to hear him say my name, because he rarely called me like that. “Yes” I said. “Say something” he said as he scanned my face. “I’m okay with it” I said. “Do you mean it or are you just saying that?” he asked. “No, I mean it. I’m glad you said it first” I said and looked him in the eyes to show him that I was fine with this decision. He sighed in relief and then smiled. “Us, it was…”he started, but I put my hand on his hand to gesture him to stop. “It’s okay. I don’t need any explanation, because I understand. I want this too” I said. “Thank you Fleur” he said. He squeezed my hand for a brief second and then he let it go. “I will move back to my place in the morning” I said. “You don’t have to rush things. You can take your time. I will crash at a friend’s place” he said. “No, please. This is your house and I have my studio” I said. “Alright” he shrugged. He got up from the dining table and pressed a quick kiss on my cheek, which took me by surprise. “Thanks for understanding” he smiled and went back to the couch. I cleared the dining table and threw his salad in the garbage. I put the dishes in the dishwasher and decided to pack so I could move out in the morning. I packed the things I had bought or brought with me when I moved in and not the things he had gotten me. One trolley fitted all of my belongings. It was funny, because it made me realize the contrast between him and me once again. I pulled the trolley out of the bedroom and I bumped into him. “Sorry” I said. “It’s alright. Are you done packing already?” he asked. I nodded. “Well, I’m going to sleep” he said. “Good night Neymar” I said. “Good night Fleur” he said as he passed me.
I woke up on the couch the next morning. I looked at the clock on the living room wall and it showed that it was 9am. He was probably getting ready for training right now. I heard him come down the stairs a second later. “Good morning” he said. “Morning” I said. “You didn’t have to sleep here you know” he said. “It’s alright, the couch was comfortable” I said. He smiled faintly and went to the kitchen. I folded the blanket and went upstairs to put it away. I brushed my teeth and grabbed a fresh pair of clothes from my trolley. I put my pajamas into a plastic bag and shoved it inside the trolley. I was ready to leave his mansion 10 minutes later. I found him sitting at the dining table, eating his cereals. “You are leaving?” he asked when he spotted me. “Yes” I said as held onto my trolley. He stood up and walked towards me. “Take care of yourself okay? If there is anything, call me” he said and pressed a warm kiss on my forehead. “Thanks, you take care too” I said. “No hard feelings right?” he asked. “No, Neymar. It just wasn’t meant to be” I said. “Thanks for understanding” he said with a smile. “Bye” I said. “Bye Fleur” he said. I headed out the door and closed not only the front door, but also an important chapter of my life.

My old ouch squeaked loudly when I plumped down on it once I was back at my studio. It had been a while since I had been here and the dust on my furniture confirmed that fact. I was too lazy however to do any cleaning right now. I pulled out my phone and saw my lock screen. Two happy people with glistering eyes smiled at me. I remembered when this picture was taken. It seemed like an eternity ago, though it wasn’t that old. 6 months to be exact. It was one of my favorite pictures of us. ‘Us’ didn’t exist anymore so it was time to change my lock screen. I tapped on the gallery icon. The countless folders with pictures filled my display. I decided to format my SD memory card instead of deleting everything one by one.
