In Serbia,theindustrialproductionofbioethanolstillreliesonconventionalfeedstockscontaining
starch andsugarsuchascorn,wheatandmolasses.Inordertoimprovetheeconomyofbioethanol
productionandtoavoidthecompetitionofthefeedstockutilizationforfoodandenergy,several
productionapproachesbasedoncropselection,processintegrationandwasteutilizationwere
consideredinthispaper.Particularattentionwasputonutilizationofnonconventionalcropssuch
as triticaleanddamagedcropsnotappropriateforfoodconsumption.Potentialoflignocellulosic
biomassfortheproductionofsecondgenerationethanolinSerbiawasalsoconsideredaswellasthe
utilizationofstillageasamainby-product.Theinvestigatedapproachescansignificantlyimprovethe
economy ofbioethanolproductionandcontributetosolveseriousenvironmentalproblems.
