The yields obtained for Gracilaria were significantly
different for the two densities tested (pb0.05) (Table 2).
A significantly higher yield was obtained with the 5 kg
m−2 of stocking density (Table 3).
At 5 kg m−2 stocking density, the NUE was higher
than at 7 kg m−2
, 76.7% (±22.13%) vs. 63.8%
(± 24.62%), respectively (Fig. 2). The efficiency of
TAN removal of the two cascade systems was not significantly
different (Table 2). The system (5 kg m−2
)
Gracilaria+Chondrus removed 80.4% (±19.81%) of
the TAN, while the system (7 kg m−2
) Gracilaria+
Chondrus removed 77.0% (±15.86%). Once again, the
differences observed between the cultures in 1500-
l tanks were balanced by the 300-l tank cultures
(Fig. 2). During this experiment, 36.6 g of N was
removed per day by the seaweed system, which represents
3.05 g day−1 m−2
.
