There were discrepancies
among the reviews, as one review [19] found insufficient evidence
to determine the efficacy of acupuncture compared to
medication, and two reviews found that acupuncture was as
effective as medication in treating depression [17,18]. These
three reviews found no evidence that acupuncture was superior
to sham acupuncture or a waiting list control. Two reviews
found that acupuncturewas an effective treatment for depression
[18,20]. All four reviews found that there was poor methodological
quality in the included trials.
