In this painting, Frida portrays an indigenous girl seemingly lost in a desert landscape. The background is divided into night and day….a common theme Kahlo used as a background in other paintings. On the right is the Sun and below it the Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan. On the left is the moon and below it the Pyramid of the Moon at Teotihuacan.
The girl wears a shawl around her shoulders giving the feeling that the sun is cold. In her hand she holds a camouflaged model military airplane which may be symbolic of the ongoing World War II.
