The Education Sector in Malawi can take lessons from another rapidly growing mobile
industry that being Electronic Commerce sector in Malawi. The main drivers are banks and
the mobile network providers in this sector. Edward Saidi’s paper on ‘Mobile
Opportunities, Mobile Problems’ outlines the implementation pros and cons of mcommerce.
This paper looks at the implementation of m-commerce in the same landscape
that m-learning will need to be implemented. With one main difference being that the Mcommerce
clientele might be more economically active than the learners in M-learning. The
paper foresees challenges in the form of technical (including infrastructure), business and
policy.
