When Pep Guardiola took over Bayern Munich in 2013 they were treble winners. Many claimed that Guardiola had a dream team to work with and how it was going to be a very easy task for him at Bayern Munich. They also said that there was not much left for him to achieve since his predecessor Jupp Heynckes had already achieved everything with the club.
Pep Guardiola not only got the team acclimatized to his style of football within weeks but broke three records in his first season with the Bavarian Club. The previous record of 14 unbeaten games set by Karl-Heinz Feldkamp was broken by Pep Guardiola. His 28 game unbeaten run finally ended in Bayern Munich’s 1-0 defeat to FC Augsburg. Guardiola also won the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) for a record 17th time. The Catalan’s biggest achievement however was winning the Bundesliga with 7 games left, breaking predecessor Jupp Heynckes record of winning the title with 6 games left.
Despite a lot of criticism about his tactics in the Champions League exit against Real Madrid, Guardiola defended his tactics but accepted blame for the defeat. What Pep Guardiola has done with his team after the defeat is phenomenal. The Catalan genius made a lot of changes to his 3-4-3 formation not only to bring out the best in his players but also to overcome the weaknesses of his system.
