having the time of my life. It’s amazing how friendships are formed, and experiences I will literally never forget, have all been compacted into 2 surreal weeks of training, beaches and buckets. I can’t even begin to explain how good it feels to be here, even when it’s half a world away from home. The turning point for me this week was the ‘English Camp’ myself and my fellow trainees ran at a local school. I’d had 1 and half weeks of TEFL training when they launched me into a lions den that is 60 Thai kids who barely speak English in 34 degree heat. To be honest, I surprised myself at how naturally it came to me once I got up there, and it felt amazing. I forgot anyone was even observing me as I became completely absorbed in my own lesson with (for the most part), absolutely adorable children. They seem to have an unrequited love for falang (westerners), and most importantly a willingness to learn, which I found most humbling compared to some of my educational experiences in the UK. It’s going to be bittersweet next week when I have to leave my new found Thailand family, fellow TEFL heaven trainees, for Lopburi, where I begin the next adventure as Teacher Kate.
