Whether international accounting professionals trained by Chinese universities can meet the demands of an era of economic expansionism in China, and a broader movement toward globalization is problematic. Success will depend, in part, on the effectiveness of teaching and appropriateness and relevance of curricula. In this regard it is important to recognize that IFRS are principles based contrary to the traditional focus in China on authoritative rules-based prescriptive accounting practices (Yang, 2012). Thus, adoption of IFRS will require Chinese accountants to exercise professional judgment and critical thinking-a matter to which we now turn.
