Manchester United are understood to be exploring the possibility of signing Juventus centre-back Leonardo Bonucci.
Jose Mourinho is keen on strengthening his defence with another high-quality centre-back and is thought to have identified Bonucci as the ideal leader to further reinforce United's spine.
With United also intent on signing Paul Pogba , the likelihood of United signing Bonucci would appear to be slim. Juve have already seen Alvaro Morata return to Real Madrid and have bolstered their squad with the signings of Miralem Pjanic, Dani Alves and Medhi Benatia.
United have already signed central defender Eric Bailly from Villarreal this summer but Mourinho admitted he was uncertain whether the Ivory Coast international would immediately adapt to the Premier League, while Marcos Rojo could leave.
Talks between United and Pogba are ongoing and a source told M.E.N. Sport the clubs are 'on the same page', with Juve putting on a public show of defiance in an attempt to convince supporters they are doing their utmost to keep Pogba.
