Chapter 7: Name
Chapter Summary:
What happened to Kame?!
Naming the daughter Kazumi. Jin's entry on happiness and best wishes.
(sorry for the bad summary)
----
On the internet, there’s a particular media clip of a short interview.
“What is Jin to you?”
“A friend” Kamenashi would reply with a smile.
“A very good friend?” the reporter asked.
Knowing fully what the reporter was hinting at, Kamenashi didn’t bother explaining. He merely pointed at his watch, smiled, and left together with Papa, who was waiting for him quietly by the side.
Papa naturally reached over to carry Kamenashi’s giant canvas bag that was packed with things. They kept on walking without looking back, even though they knew that the camera was still shooting them.
Later, Kamenashi started to suffer mental irregularities. He forgot to turn off the gas stove, forgot to bring his house keys out and even forgot his lines during filming. It was then that Papa decided to move in with Kamenashi.
Right before winter that year, Kamenashi’s condition worsened. He often got locked out of home, because he forgot how to unlock the door. He was afraid to go out because he might forget his way home after that. Papa felt responsible for Kamenashi’s well-being, thus he was with him most of the time.
As a result, both their workload reduced significantly and they spent most of their time together. Papa didn’t even dare to let go of Kame’s hand on the streets because Kame might just get lost.
It was sweet and intimate, right? But everyone thought that was merely an act. After all, it was an unspoken rule of the showbiz, like how it was necessary to have rumours of co-star romance after any movie production.
The jimusho still had hopes on them. Thus even though they rarely appeared on live shows anymore, they were forced to maintain a minimal level of media exposure, irregardless of the methods used.
“Another promotional tactic” media commenters would say.
I thought so too. That was why I usually read through these tabloid reports with a pinch of salt and laughed them off.
But now… I knew that Papa and Pi named Kamenashi as “Kazumi”.
That’s my name. Mine.
I knew my name was common one. But Mama said that Papa insisted on this name.
“Papa seemed to like this name very much” she smiled.
“I’ve no preferred names, so I just went along with his decision.”
That was the first time I’m pissed at Mama for her gentle nature.
My dearest Mama, you were the one who carried me to full term. You should be the one to decide on my name. Any other name was fine. I… I just didn’t want to be known as “Kazumi”.
