There is no criticism or judgment, but an attitude of a beginner's mind: a mind that is open and receptive clear of attachment to any thoughts. The body is relaxed and the mind is emptied of all thought except aware- ness of the image, word, or breath, Passive concentra tion" keeps the meditator in a state of awareness and alertness rather than drowsiness, and intently focused on the present moment. There should be no blame guilt, or recrimination if the meditator loses focus or if the mind wanders: one is instructed simply to return the mind to its original focus. Reentry into the normal waking state should be gentle and relaxed. Medita requires practice on a regular schedule, usually once or twice daily to achieve maximal results
