Air samples are collected by drawing known amounts of air through cassettes containing glass fiber filters (GFF). The filters are analyzed by extracting with benzene and gravimetrically determining the benzene-soluble fraction (BSF). If the BSF exceeds the appropriate PEL, then the sample is analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with a fluorescence (µL) or ultraviolet (UV) detector to determine the presence of selected polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).
