Grade 10 Mathematics
In Grade 10 Math class we cover the following topics: Polynomials (operations, The LCM and GCF of Polynomials, Rational Equations, Polynomial Equations and Partial Fractions) Quadratics Functions (Quadratic Equations, Nature of the Roots and relations between roots, writing an equation whose roots are given, graphs) and Trigonometric Functions (trigonometric identities and their periods, inverse of trigonometric functions, trigonometric laws and formulas and equations). Graphing calculators are used in the Mathematics class which enables the students to solve problems related to their daily life. In this class students are evaluated using a variety of assessment methods such as exams, quizzes, and performance tasks.
Another Grade 10 Math class is offered for students who will not join the IB DP program and who will not take LYS Math Exam and who will consider to study phycology, art, or language in the future. Students in this class study the same curriculum described above but in less detail.
Grade 11 Mathematics
In Grade 11 Math class we cover the following topics: Complex Numbers, Logarithm, Mathematical Induction, Permutation & Combination, Sequences, Matrices, and Determinants. Learning complex numbers enables students to understand the number sets and that the ‘Real Numbers’ is not the biggest number set. They will see the ‘inverse function’ relation between exponential numbers and logarithm. We cover another topic in this class which is induction, one of the fundamental ways of understanding and proving both mathematical and non-mathematical hypothesis. Learning about permutation and combination enables the students to learn the math skills that they would use to solve problems related to their daily life. Learning about sequences enables the students to understand finite and infinite sums which popular mathematician Zeno’s could not understand (famous “Achilles and the Tortoise disambiguation”). When students understand matrices and determinants, they will have a different perspective of solutions to equations. To teach all the concepts and skills related to the topics mentioned above, mathematical software such as Geometers Sketchpad and Mathematica and IT calculators are used for better understanding, differentiated instruction, and further applications. In this class students are evaluated using a variety of assessment methods such as exams, quizzes, and performance tasks.
Another Grade 11 Math class is offered for students who will not join IB DP program and who will not take LYS Math Exam and who will consider to study psychology, art, or language in the future. Students in this class study the same curriculum described above but in less details.
Grade 12 Math
In Grade 12 Math class we focus on the development of concepts of calculus and on providing the students with experiences that allow them to use its methods and applications. We use a multi-representational approach to calculus with concepts, results and problems being expressed graphically,
