Growth of phaeotheca traingularis, CBS 471.90 (from humidifier) and MZKI B-733 (from saltpan) was significantly stimulated with the additions of 5% NaCl, particularly in the case of mono- and disaccharide assimilation (Table 5). Growth was invariably slow, maximum biomass mostly being attained only after 9 weeks of incubation. Under these conditions the physiological profile of the two strains were nearly identical. As in H. werneckii, relatively good growth was obtained with 20% additional salt, but growth with 30% was weak or nearly absent.
