I started experiencing culture shock shortly after I arrived in this country. In Vietnam, when young people speak to an older person, they have to be very respectful. They have to use different ways of speaking to older person, the older person will get upset. But English does not have different way to speak with older people, and I did not understand this when I first arrived in this country. I felt uncomfortable when I talk with my teacher, for example, because the word “you” sounded so disrespectful. Instead of using the word “you” I began to say “Teacher!
