Students viewed the rationales for items answered incorrectly
at the conclusion of the exam. This feedback
could have served as a learning experience and guided
students in preparing for the licensing exam. Students at
risk of failing the NCLEX were encouraged within the
E2 summary report to seek varying degrees of additional
preparation, and students who sought recommended
remediation probably increased their chances
of being successful. Success on the NCLEX examination
in students who obtained low scores on the E2 was not
studied. The expected influence of remediation and additional
preparation on the student’s ability to succeed
was considered a separate study. Therefore, further research
is indicated to study the low scoring E2 students’
success on the licensing exam as well as factors significant
to low scoring students becoming successful
first-time takers of the licensing exam. Nevertheless,
based on the findings of this study, the E2 was determined
to be a highly predictive measure of students’
ability to succeed on the NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN.
