Obtain up-to-date information about the security and general health and
safety situation for the countries being visited
Ensure that trip itineraries are in place (as detailed in Appendix 2)
and provide copies to the office and family members/next of kin
Ensure that a trip risk assessment has been completed
(as detailed in Appendix 3)
Ensure they are briefed on the nature of the country being visited,
cultural norms, do’s and don’ts
Inform the Insurance Officer of your dates of travel and ensure that they
are fully covered for the duration of the trip
Ensure that emergency contact numbers are accessible when travelling
and available to colleagues remaining in the UK and are recorded in
digital (online and in mobile phone) form and hard copy form including
those set out in section 7.3
Follow the FCO travel checklist to help plan for the trip abroad.
The website provides helpful advice about staying safe while overseas
Staff who are British nationals travelling overseas are advised to
register with the FCO Locate service where possible. By entering contact
details and visit plans online, information is forwarded to the local British
Embassy.
In the event of a crisis, staff would be contacted by
the Embassy who would provide advice and liaise if necessary with
family and friends
