Application of the model in explaining employee attitudes at the workplace
is found in Chang (2003). The research measured composite intensity
of extrinsic motivation as a summation of two extrinsic motivators, money
and job security, and found the composite effect on employees’ work-effort
level to be similar to that of each extrinsic motivator. Expanded to the case
of employee overall perception of diverse HR practices, therefore, it is
suggested that an employee’s general (or overall) attitudes toward HR practices
can be represented by a summation of the belief held about each HR
practice, and accordingly, it can be assumed that the effect of the overall
perception can be shaped in a similar fashion to the effects of the individual
perception of each practice.
