Ophiomorpha, like Thalassinoides above, is a trace fossil tunnel network most likely made by a decapod crustacean, such as a shrimp. It is usually found in rocks deposited under shallow, high-energy settings where wave action and tidal currents were present. In this type of environment, the majority of organisms live within the sediment (known as infaunal). Ophiomorpha tends to be more vertically orientated, as these tunnels were probably a dwelling, rather than just a feeding burrow.
