Forces Generated by High Winds
The loads in the ship mooring lines increase approximately as the square of the wind speed increase. For example, if the wind speed doubles, the mooring lines loads will quadruple. Their magnitude is also dependent on the direction of the wind and the configuration of the ship above the waterline.
