CtHY obtained from Prof Hien Thanh Nguyen, BARC Hanoi,
Vietnam, was revived in modified nutrient broth (mNB) for 24 h
and was subsequently kept in glycerol medium at −80 ◦C for all
experiments. Strains of BioGro inoculant biofertiliser selected at
the Hanoi University of Science were identified at the University
of Sydney using a number of different techniques, including
morphological, biochemical and genetic methods (Kecskés et al.,
2008). Subsequently, the identity of the strains was also confirmed
at the laboratories of the German Culture Collection of Microbes
(DSMZ), Braunschweig, Germany. The strains comprising BioGro
were identified as strains of Pseudomonas fluorescens, Candida tropicalis,
Bacillus subtilis and B. amyloliquefaciens.
