2. Materials and methods
2.1. Chemicals
All reagents used were of analytical grade. Table 1 shows the
eight perfume samples analysed: the authentic Chanel Coco Made-
moiselle women by Chanel perfumes, two counterfeits and five
inspired perfumes. Also, the price and the relative humidity for
each sample are indicated in Table 1. The counterfeit samples were
obtained by free-markets from Madrid and Sevilla respectively and
their counterfeit nature was revealed by the provider with the evi-
dence that they are not authorised distributors.
2.2. Electronic olfactory system
The analytical system was an Electronic Olfactory system
(EOS835) built by Sacmi Industry (Sacmi Industry, S.r.l., Imola,
Italy), composed of a chamber with six sensors based on different
metal oxide semiconductors (MOS) (see Table 2) coupled to a com-
puter for data acquisition and processing by the EOS835 software
[15].
In these experiments, synthetic dry air was used as carrier gas for
the samples and also as reference air. A simple assembly of Teflon
