Totalitarianism, a political system that extensively and totally controls people’s lives; politically, economically, and socio-culturally
Totalitarianism emerges only during this century, with the development of technology for rigidly controlling population. The government monitors closely the activities of its citizens as well as visitors to the country.
In case of Nazi Germany, early Soviet Union or current North Korea, they exercised “threat and terror” to force citizen compliance and allow the dictator to remain in power. There is no individual rights and violations of the regime will be punished.
However, with the advent of information technology, authoritarianism and totalitarianism is being faced with its pressures and challenges. Dictators are afraid of uprising and collapse of power.
