Since the required location (42º) does not coincide with a rotor arm, the balance weight must be divided into component weights to place them on the two adjacent arms. Draw the required balance weight as the vector, 26 /42º (fig. 8), and divide that vector into components corresponding to the positions of rotor arms No. 1 and 2. By scaling or reading divisions on the graph paper, the components are:
Weight on rotor arm No. 1 = 9.3 pounds
Weight on rotor arm No. 2 = 20 pounds
Remove the 20-pound trial weight from rotor arm No. 1 and place a 9.3-pound weight on rotor arm No. 1 and a 20-pound weight on rotor arm No. 2. The unit balance should be checked by running at normal speed before the weights are attached permanently to the rotor arms.
