The same enrichment cultures were used as those
for the radiometric method. The selective solid media
used were brilliant green agar plus 0.008% sulfadiazine
and bismuth sulfite agar. Colonies isolated as presumptive
Salmonella were tested (i) biochemically by
growth in lysine decarboxylase broth, ONPG (O-nitrophenyl-,
8-D-galactopyranoside) broth, and dulcitol-sucrose-
salicin-iron-urea agar (10) and (ii) serologically
with Salmonella poly 0 and poly H agglutinating sera.
Cultures of Salmonella isolated from food samples
were serologically identified by the Salmonella Reference
Laboratory, Adelaide.
