In [7] a calculation method of the saturation throughput of a node in a multi-hop IEEE802.11 network with an arbitrary topology is proposed based on the air-time of a node as defined in [4] and a detailed analysis of the loss probability due to collisions.
The most important concept in those papers is the product form evaluation of the air-time of a node.
In [5] the validity of the method is analyzed and the main result states that a product form of the air-time is only accurate if the corresponding Markov chain is reversible.
In the case of an IEEE802.11 network this is true if and only if the different states in the corresponding Markov chain are related to links in stead of nodes because the success of simultaneous transmissions depends not only on the topology of the nodes but also on the sender-receiver pairs.
