Body weight and rectal temperature were both monitored and found to be altered by transportation stress in the current study (Table 2). Body weight was decreased at 9.75 h (209.42 ± 2.25 kg) by 10% (230.78 ± 1.51 kg at −24 h) and remained decreased at 48 h after transportation (224.06 ± 1.60 kg). Rectal temperature was decreased by 48 h (38.55 ± 0.04°C; 38.73 ± 0.06 at −24 h) but was still well below a febrile state that would be indicative of an infection (>40°C; Duff and Galyean, 2007).
