Job Description
Job Purpose
Under the direction of the Chief Engineer, the Assistant Chief Engineer performs preventative maintenance and upkeep on audio and video equipment in the Music Technology Division recording facilities. The Assistant Chief Engineer is also responsible for assisting the Chief Engineer and the Associate Chief Engineer, in the design and construction of production facilities and perform studio upgrades.
Required Skills
Knowledge and Skills Required
o Minimum of 10 years experience in maintaining a professional recording studio including exposure to all aspects of traditional and state of the art production technologies.
o Comprehensive operational knowledge of the recording studio environment including: analog tape machines, digital audio workstations, analog and digital production consoles, microphones, stereo & multi channel surround speaker systems and patch bay implementations.
o Formal education in Electrical Engineering or related a plus.
o Comprehensive operational knowledge of studio wiring techniques and electrical grounding schemes.
o Ability to install, test and calibrate professional production equipment.
o Possession of good communication and interpersonal skills.
Required Experience
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
o Performs specialized repairs and upgrades of all specialized equipment
o Responsible for acoustical testing and analysis in all division rooms with special emphasis on performance enhancement and improved audio listening environments in support of curriculum.
o Responsible for detailing and implementing customized installation, and infrastructural design in support of a variety of studio and maintenance environments.
o Assists in the management of parts inventory including ordering and purchasing.
o Maintains records of replacement parts and failure rates.
o Works with Associate Chief Engineer to troubleshoot Digital Audio Workstation issues and related equipment
o Assists in the design and installation of professional audio and video systems.
o Performs regular maintenance and scheduled upgrades to the MTD production facilities.
o Trains, supervises, and closely manages qualified student work study employees to perform routine maintenance duties.
o Other duties as assigned.
Possible Additional Duties and Responsibilities
o Assisting with the increasing demand to provide advice and support on college-wide projects providing critical listening environments requiring advanced technological expertise.
o Fabrication of specialized/customized solutions related to systems integration
o Specific technical support of MSYN Department’s specialized studio
