One significant methodological development is the application of meta-analysis to OD research. Meta-analysis is a set of analytical techniques that statistically combines the results of studies that are investigating the same variable or intervention, making it easier to draw conclusions from prior research. In addition to examining the effects of change interventions on dependent variables, meta-analysis also makes it possible to examine the effects of moderator variables (e.g., the technology used in an organization types, and the rigor of a research study). Meta-analysis also makes it possible to statistically remove possible effects of things such as reviewer bias. Meta-analytic studies of OD research have made it easier to determine what we can gain from prior research.
