THE Federal Government has resolved to embark on a new national urban transport policy that will address the current challenges within the transport sector and pave the way for a more effective and affordable transportation in the country.
At a two-day national workshop on urban transport policy development in Nigeria, the Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar, who said the last urban mass transport policy was developed in 1998, noted that as the nation has continued to experience population growth and urbanisation, there is need to formulate policies and highly coordinated approaches to address the inherent transportation challenges and multi-faceted bottlenecks associated with the nation’s transport system.
