Rigour To address credibility the participants were invited to verify the final themes and comment on the findings. Consistency in the interview process was maintained by the same interviewer conducting all interviews and by participants being asked the same questions, which helps to establish similarity of the data (McClement and Degner, 1995). Credibility was achieved by two researchers carrying out independent coding of the data. Confirmability was addressed by having two investigators independently analyse the data and verify themes and by keeping an ‘audit trail’ of the decisions. Including a range of participants with varied nursing backgrounds and experience aided in ensuring transferability of the findings.
