More recently, researchers at the Lactobacillus Reference Center in Argentina presented a study confirming the ability of certain probiotics to suppress the growth of breast cancer tumors. According to Alejandra de Moreno de LeBlanc, whose study was presented at the August 2010 Proceedings of the Nutrition Society, milk fermented with the probiotic bacteria Lactobacillus helveticus R389 was found to delay the growth of breast tumor. LeBlanc states that fermented milk products may keep the immune system in a state of surveillance that affects its reactivity to pathologies such as cancer and inflammation.
