chemical analyses and the spectral characteristic in one comprehensive
method leading to a synergistic effect in data interpretation.
This purpose can be supported by multivariate data
analysis. In this section we focus on visual interpretation of spectral
characteristic (Figs. 1 and 2) in combination with wet chemical
analyses (Tables 3 and 4) and in a second step the spectra were
used to develop prediction models for ammonium, nitrate, sulfate
and dissolved organic carbon (see section 3.2). In Fig. 1 selected
spectra reflect different degrees of decomposition of both aerated
and anaerobic solid waste materials from lab-scale experiments.
The selection of the spectra was done with the intent to show a
broad variation of the appearing absorption bands of the investigated
