this study applied the mixed algal growth units
with natural medium to imitate an ecosystem in lab and could provide
information regarding algal growth in a natural environment.
TSS and VSS techniques are adopted as the indexes to estimate algal
biomass and the high biomass production was measured from
those indexes. We statistically proved the direct index of dry weight
had no regression relationship with proxy index of chlorophyll. In
addition, from the growth condition analysis, this study demonstrated
the atmospheric CO2 was the major carbon source to support
the algal growth and high CO2 uptake rate with extremely
high consumption efficiencies were achieved. Consequently, our
study results showed the potential of algal growth and CO2 absorption
by natural water medium and these results could help us to
know the natural growth of freshwater algae better.
