By the reign of King Rama VII (1926-1935), the various Phra Thinang were somewhat delapidated and in need of restoration. However as this was a time of economic depression there were only sufficient funds for the renovation of Phra Thinang Prasat under the direction of Prince lddhidebsarn Kritakara, an architectural graduate of the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. The results of his work may still be seen today. In the present reign, the other Phra Thinang which had lacked restoration for many years were of necessity demolished. Only Phra Thinang Mul Sathan Boroma at and Phra Thinang Sommotti Thewarat Upbat were reconstructed on their old sites and with a replica of their original decoration. Behind these buildings the open area was turned into a lawn. More recently, construction of a new Phra Thinang has been started here once more in order to hold state banquets.
