codified using the AND operator in the fuzzy toolbox of
MATLAB software.
After development of the fuzzy sets and determination
of fuzzy rules, results of quality grading of milled rice by
human experts were compared to those by the developed
FIS. The results of fuzzy rule-base evaluation in MATLAB
software are illustrated in Fig. 6. This figure shows the
FIS output considering PBK and DOM in ‘‘VL’’ and ‘‘H’’
ranges, respectively. In such a condition, the FIS output
(quality) is labeled as being in the ‘‘G’’ range which is consistent
with the codified rules. A surface viewer curve of
the FIS considering the input variables is given in Fig. 7
showing how the two input variables affect the FIS output.
Using the surface viewer 3D curve, two reactions can be
illustrated in a single view which helps to improve the performance
characteristics of the developed FIS. It is
observed that FIS output (quality) decreases with increasing
PBK, which reduces the economic value of the product.
