Conclusions
The present study has provided important insights into emerging
adult identity configurations across the life domains of love and work.
Those individuals who managed to enact strong commitments in both
love and work appeared to be best equipped to tackle the many daily
challenges of emerging adult life. Our findings illustrate, however, that
this is a rather rare development during emerging adulthood, as most
young people focus on one domain or are not yet in the position to
commit themselves to either love or work. Hence, we hope that future
researchers continue to examine identity processes in multiple life
domains simultaneously. Such studies will allow for a fine-grained picture
of identity formation in emerging adulthood and beyond.
