Peritectic Fe–Ni alloys were undercooled using glass fluxing. When subjected to an undercooling (DT) beyond a critical value
(DT* 130 K), the peritectic reaction, L + d! c, normally occurring after primary recalescence, was found to be suppressed. This
can be ascribed to a longer incubation time for the occurrence of the peritectic reaction than the time required for solidification of d
phase during post-recalescence, for DT > DT*.
