Replacing SBM with pulse seeds may help to reduce diet cost (Brooks et al., 2009; Woyengo et al., 2014) as long asgrowth performance can be maintained as accomplished in the present study. With concerns about potentially-detrimentalconstituents in field pea, a maximum dietary inclusion of 100 to 150 g/kg was recommended for nursery pigs weighing lessthan 20 kg (Castell et al., 1996) and up to 300 g/kg for pigs of 11 to 27 kg based diets formulated to equal total and not digestibleamino acids (Gatel et al., 1989). The present study indicated that yellow field pea could replace 300 g SBM/kg for swine dietsformulated to equal NE and SID amino acids content without detrimental effects on overall growth performance of nurserypigs after a 1-week adaptation. The results of the present study thus give confidence to pork producers to incorporate highinclusion of field pea into diets for young pigs.
