Teachers were provided with a packet of measures for all participating students in the larger study.
When completed, measures were returned to the research staff. All participating students were in selfcontained
classrooms and spent the majority of the day with their teacher. In two participating classrooms,
two teachers co-taught students; participants in these classes (n = 24) were rated by both
teachers, and mean ratings were used in analyses. Teachers had known children for a minimum of
3 months prior to completing teacher measures (mean length = 6.6 months, SD = 2.5). In all but one
classroom, the teacher forms were returned by the end of the academic year. However, one teacher
did not return the forms for the 4 participants in his classroom until 1 month after the end of school.
Social functioning measures were not significantly correlated with the number of months a teacher
had known a student.
