The beneficial effects of dietary protein, methionine, and linoleic acid on egg weight are well documented. However, most investigations concerning the effect of these nutrients on egg weight were conducted after peak egg production had been reached and formation of large eggs by flocks had already been achieved. Investigations concerning the effect of these nutrients on egg weight during the early stages of egg production have been the subject of sporadic research in recent years with conflicting results.
