Our initial set of 15 survey questions was designed to measure the underlying organizational
support for KM efforts in terms of the four categories mentioned earlier:
Supervisor, Coworker, Leadership, and Incentive. The questions on Supervisor and
Coworker support dealt with (1) holding regular meetings to share work-related knowledge,
(2) encouragement to share effective solutions to work-related issues, and (3) support
for open communication. The scale items on Leadership covered (1) understanding
about KM at top levels of management, (2) senior level participation in setting direction
for KM, (3) senior management’s demonstration of commitment to KM, and
(4) periodic review of effectiveness of KM practices. Finally, the questions on Incentive
included promoting knowledge-sharing behavior by (1) building it into appraisal
systems and (2) rewarding teamwork.
